Helping cats out of shelters...into homes

When contacting us, please mention that you found us through our Cat Chat Homing Page.

Thank you!

Character: Jaego is an indoor cat who loves nothing more than to play. He currently shares his home with two other bengals (one boy one girl) although I would say he is the most dominant and can like things his way! He also lives with a large placid dog who he generally avoids despite the lack of interest shown by our dog.

Jaego is a timid, yet very loving cat on his terms, he is not a lap cat but loves a good head scratch and to be stroked from head to tail (he will tell you off when you stop). He doesn’t enjoy being picked up but will have a cuddle for a few minutes, offer head bumps then wriggle to let you know he has had enough. Despite being quite dominant with our other bengals Jaego can be a skittish cat, easily startled and will run and hide if in a noisy, busy environment so would suit a calm home preferably with no children and dogs, but possibly another cat.

Behaviour: Jaego will seek a quiet spot (preferably a sunny one!) and will spend the day sleeping. Second only to play, Jaego’s favourite pastime is basking in the sun, he will follow the sun around the house and bathe in the smallest of spaces. He will become more active later in the day through to evening but settles again easily at bedtime. Jaego is not a scratchy cat and does not bite, he will run away if something scares him and once he has had enough fuss he will wriggle to be let go if held.

Play: Jaego is possibly the most playful cat I have ever known! He is lightning fast and simply loves to play. He will play with virtually anything however despite an endless amount of purpose bought toys one of his firm favourites are hair bobbles, we often find a stash hidden away somewhere! Feathers, string, balls, scrunched up paper, tin foil – he loves it all and will continue long after you have worn yourself out! Jaego will amuse himself with toys around the house and is often heard bounding around upstairs chasing a ball.

Indoor/Outdoor: Jaego must be an indoor cat, he has always been kept this way and as he can be nervous I feel he would run if outside, however a safely enclosed play area is something we have no space to offer but think he would love especially if in a sunny area of the garden. A cat wheel maybe beneficial but has not used one before.

Diet: Jaego has access to dried biscuits (and water ) 24/7 and is fed Felix wet pouches 4 times a day. Breakfast is fed from an automatic timed bowl and he is fine with this. Like many bengals his tummy is sensitive to food changes and can upset him he is also very stubborn and will refuse food that is not to his liking!

Health: For the first 4-5 years Jaego was fully vaccinated, wormed and flead however as he is never outside and no longer visits ta cattery he no longer has this. He does not like the cat carrier or vet visits and thankfully has not required these as he is in good health. (Vaccination card and papers are available to potential owners should they wish to see them).

Reason For Rehome: Jaego was vet checked when he began spraying some years ago, he was clear of any infections or illness and given a clean bill of health therefore we felt this was a sign of stress and/or unhappiness and tried many things over the years to rectify this such as (extra litter rays, changing litter, plug in pheromones, sprays and much more) but could not put an end to it. He happily uses the litter tray but will spray certain areas for which we cannot explain, this is the sole reason we are reluctantly rehoming Jaego as I feel he is not happy and deserves to be. He is a very much-loved part of our family, this decision has taken a few years to arrive at and has not been made easily.

New Home: Jaego’s Ideal new home would be quiet and calm, indoor only with people (no children) who could offer him plenty of time for interaction, play and most importantly love and cuddles. He will need patience and understanding as I feel he will possibly hide away at first until he gains some confidence in is new surroundings. A home with no dogs would be best for Jaego but I feel he would enjoy the company of feline friend to cuddle up with and join in with his antics. Whilst secure, enclosed outdoor access is something he does not have now it would offer further stimulation which I feel he would benefit from.

He is currently based near Dudley, West Midlands

The first step is to find a cat that you think could be right for you - It’s important you read the cat’s profile all the way through so you can be sure you’ll be able to support their needs. If everything looks promising, get in touch, and arrange for you and your family to meet the cat. If possible, spend a few hours to getting to know them better.
Ask the owner as many questions as you can. Asking the owner lots of questions is great way to find the right pet and make sure you can give them everything they need, too. As soon as the cat is handed over to you, you become their legal owner. You can’t return them to their original home if you change your mind and The Bengal Cat Association isn’t a rescue service so we can’t take them into our care, either.
If you would like to chat to one of our team about a cat that interests you, but you need some advice before going ahead with the rehome please contact us (bcacatclub@hotmail.com) with your phone number and one of the team will ring you.
As such, you should only go through with the adoption if you’re 100% sure it’s right. If the owner agrees, you can ask to visit your potential new pet a couple of times before making a final decision or try video calling each other. Consider asking these questions before you visit the cat to help make sure you've covered the important considerations. Have I seen how the cat behaves around other cats (if applicable)? Have I double checked that the cat would suit my routine at home? Have I physically checked the cat over? Does s/he have any potential health issues that I need to ask about? Ask to see vet records. If I have children have, I seen how the cat interacts with children? Have my children met the cat? Do I have any doubts? If yes, DO NOT TAKE THE CAT HOME on this occasion and plan to visit again,
For most people, giving up a pet for adoption is heart-breaking. Please bear this in mind when you’re chatting to the owner.

Disclaimer:
Rehoming a rescue cat is a serious commitment please give your new cat a reasonable amount of time to settle to its new life. A cat can take 14 days, and sometimes several months to start to bonding with a new owner, sometimes it can be less time, other times longer.
Remember the Bengal Cat Association is a direct rehoming service, not a rescue organisation. We don’t have the facilities or the means to take cats into our care. So, ensure you as the re-homer ask many questions as you feel you need to before re-homing. However, we do offer a post-adoption support service so please contact us (bcacatclub@hotmail.com) immediately if you’re having any issues or you’ve got any questions, and we will do our best to help.
